Hint - Portakabin Fever

lordslumber — Thu, 08/21/2003 - 08:40

Artist: Hint
Album: Portakabin Fever
Date: 2002
Label: Ninja Tune (this label has quite a few awesome musicians)

Jonathan James moved home to his parents place in Sussex, England and locked himself into a portakabin on their property. Not sure exactly what that is, but from the descriptions, it’s like what it sounds. He did nothing but write music and play with his dog for quite some time. The results are quite amazing.

I started listening to this album after seeing that it was highly recommended by one reviewer and was hooked after the first song. James has a great mix of traditional sounding beats and smooth organs, synths and even piano for melody. The beats tend toward a down tempo hip-hop style but there is quite a variety of styles and moods throughout the CD. Overall it is upbeat and enjoyable to hear. I highly recommend this CD and am going to keep my eye on him from now on.
