The Best of REM In Time 1988-2003

gauntlet — Wed, 11/26/2003 - 09:20

Being a big REM fan, I just picked up the latest REM best of album. This is the first true best of CD out there for REM, since their first one consisted of songs chosen by the record company and not by REM themselves. So it's great to have an album that REM considers their best of. There are two things that really make this album great.

One, it includes a short description or history of each song on the album by band member Peter Buck. It's great to read how a song was created and the process they went through to get the final version.

Second, it's possible to buy the album with an additional CD of their B-sides and rarities, for a few dollars more. One of my favorites was the funky live version of Drive.

Overall, a must have for any REM fan, and an excellent addition to any music collection.

5/5.....yes, I know, this review is somewhat biased.
