Spiderman 2 trailer
I know most of the people on this forum. From them, a vague statement like that might mean something, i have some insight as to where they are coming from. From YOU however, its meaningless. Give some reasons, you could be some 7 year old yahoo from a second world country for all i know. Especially since your opinion is far from the norm.
Actually I'm a 10 year old loser from a third world country. Thank you very much.
I'm a huge comic book nerd, So I like many of the comic book turned movies that have been released in the last few years. I think Spiderman along with the last two batman movies have been the weakest.
I think spiderman came off as a cheezy 1960's comic book.
For instance near the end when green goblin is battling spiderman and the citizens of new york come together to ward off the green evildoer and defend spidey. Give me a break. More likely they would wait and steal his clothes and harvest his organs.
William Dafoe's portrail of Green Goblin was laughable. Any fanboy could do a better voice than that. "I'll get you web slinger"
Also, there's part in the movie where Aunt May is saying the lord's prayer and Green Goblin breaks and in and says "Finish It"
Auny May replies "From Evil" Sigh.
Hopefully I've defended my hatred of the film.
Now that you've stated some reasons, I will jump in here.

I can't argue against this not having read any of those. I haven't read many comic books at all really.

While I think this is a pretty cheesy way to show that the public is now supporting spiderman--and for spiderman to get out of a bind that he wouldn't have otherwise managed to do, I do think that the crowd would at least side with spiderman when they saw that he was trying to save the people (if they could see that far).

I thought the green goblin was pretty good. He does a good job as a multiple personality insane person. Also, when I read the comic books, the green goblin has a really gay sounding voice, so compared to the voice I've always imagined, this one is much better ;).

I agree this is an annoying part of the movie. Possibly the worst part of the movie. Why does she have to yell "FROM EVIL!!!" so loud, it annoyed me. Aside from sounding out of place... its like its not a prayer anymore. Does she think she has to yell to have God hear her? Why bother finishing it, if ur not going to finish it right?

You've pointed out a few flaws, and there are more in there too. Its certainly not the perfect movie.
Here is why despite those flaws, I think that Spiderman is one of the best super-hero movies of all time. I say one of the best because it has to compete with movies like "Flash Gordon" and how can you do that?! (answer: you can't).
Its got great characters and character development especially with MJ and Parker. Tim Burtons Batman was cool and as far as i'm concerned holds the title for best comic book movie (apart from flash gordon of course), Its hard to deny that keaton kicked butt in that, but really his character wasn't really developed at all. His love interest was even worse. About the most exciting thing she said that whole movie was, "can you pass the salt?" However, Spiderman has characters that are believable, likeable, and easy to associate with. Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst do a better job acting than most actors in your average comic book movie so they managed to work for me.
The story is a good one, showing how spiderman came to have his powers and attitudes on how to use them, rather than the usual: Awww, something tramatic happened to me as a kid. <fast forward through time so that the audience has to just assume what happens next is possible/probable> "As you can see, I have trained myself into this fighting machine because of my previous trauma!! Ah-hah! Nothing can stop me now! I will use my powers for good!" Daredevil was guilty of this, but I shouldn't even bring that movie up, it has few merits.
much better, i have to agree with some of your points, especially the lords prayer part. by FAR the worst part of the movie. Batman and flash gordon are GREAT. Oh, also liked xmen 1 and 2. I cant off hand think of any other good comic made to movies. If you can, go nuts. I can think of plenty of bad ones. EVERY superman movie, the following batman movies werent nearly as good, second one wasnt too bad, but after that . . . the cars and gizmos just got worse and worse, sacrificing everything it seemed for a more action oriented movie.
The hulk was terrible, the whole thing to make it look like a comic with the multiple screen shots at the same time got old. fast. the special effects were sub par to say the least. Hell boy doesnt look to promising, but perhaps better than the hulk.
I agree that daredevil wasnt good, i mean, i guess you can say that the total lack of realism was cause it was trying to be comic bookish, but other than that. . . I mean, who just starts doing airborn kicks at a blind man, and acts like its an everyday occurrence?
Thats my good and bad comic book made movie rant. Make what you will of it
i think the reasons these movies usually turn out lame is all because of the lines. people in drawings can get away with saying things that real people cant. so, if a comic book character makes a one-liner/comeback...its totally sweet, but if a character in a movie says it its corny. This was the downfall of Batman movies, in my humble opinion. who can get away with saying "Holy cow batman" or whatever anyone in those comics says? the answer: no one. However, i have my expectations raised for the next batman movie because i hear the genuis darren aronofsky (pi, requiem for a dream) is directing it. Spiderman, however, avoided the poor comicbook scripting. By making peter parker a dork he really doesnt have to make cornn 1 liners to still be cool, he shuts up and although he walks around like he has a wedgie the whole time he at least doesnt sound like a moron.
good point panda,
I'm also looking forward to the next batman, it better be MUCH better than the last ones with him directing.
I also would love it if Tim Burton took another go at one, though my huge respect for him took a dive after planet of the apes. But everyone makes a mistake now and then, so I'm sure I won't have to hold it against him for long.
I think one of the flaws of many comic book movies is killing off the villian at the end. Take Batman for example, in the first movie his arch enemy is dead, where can you go from there. In comic books themselves we see very little of the arch enemy dying. After Joker is dead it goes down hill from there. Penguin is only ok, Catwoman is pretty cool, but by movie number 4 we have Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy, yeah they carry a movie well. Whats missing is the epic battle of good vs evil which requires the hero and the villian to be developed and have numerous skirmishes.
Let's look at the success of the original Star Wars, where 3 movies of seeing the evil Darth Vader and the development of Luke along with the whole Father/son angle climax into a great fight scene.
This is a reason that makes the X-men movies have potential since they have magneto who not only has been in 2 movies, but has an understandable cause. Once again we have the drama and mind games of Professor Xavier vs Magneto who are also friends.
Two more examples:
Spiderman kills off the green goblin(going against my theory), but the possibility exists for the goblin to return as Harry which would be pretty sweet with the friends by day and enemies by night theme.
Now in daredevil the opposite is true where it appears main characters die, but at the end it appears that both the girl and bullseye are alive, how? who knows since being stabbed and falling 6 stories onto a car usually kill people. I think Daredevil screwed up by having DD fight Kingpin something that would have been good in a sequel. The whole movie he's battling bullseye and there's the dramatic end battle, then we have the anticlimatic fight with kingpin. Then the one guy he should kill he doesn't. Plus he's not at full strength and has no business going to fight kingpin in that condition. The other reason this is bad is that it establishes the kingpin as a wussie, a real villian to fear that can't beat an injured blind man, lets all be afraid of that. Now if other fights occurred to establish the kingpin's non-wussiness than such a scene would be okay, but all I know about the kingpin from the movie is that he runs a crime syndicate, formerly killed DD's dad and gets his ass kicked by a blind man that is severely injured. It just seems better if the movie had ended with bullseye falling to his death.
I suppose what it boils down to is that I like to see villians that aren't retarded idiots and don't just roll over to the hero. So if you die in the first movie, are cheesy or wussy or have no cause to be evil it takes away from the film.
you make some very good points. there is very little villian dying in comic books. The one point i would argue with you is for dare devil. TERRIBLE movie. I would be FURIOUS if they made a sequel. so in that sense im glad they got everything done and wrapped up pretty good in the end. ;) oh, and whats her face was supposed to be alive at the end?? didnt notice that, what with the whole spine stabbing thing . . .
yeah, i didnt notice she was supposed to be alive in the end either, but thats probably cause i had stopped playing attention and fallen asleep. so i'll take your word for it, its no big deal anyway, the movie sucked either way. once again, im just hoping that aronofsky can save this next batman movie.
