Most Anticipated Summer Movie of 2004
OK, this is going to be controversial, but I've gotta go with Harry Potter: Prisoner of Azkaban. It was a close one between Potter, Spidy and Troy. I love well done historical movies (like the Mummy :-), and I've got a feeling that Spidy 2, like X-men 2, will be a very good improvement (ie, not typical Hollywood sequel), but...
Prisoner of Azkaban is (so far) my favorite book in the Harry Potter series. Best character development, best plot development, etc. The actors, in their third movie, should be getting comfortable enough in their roles to really start excelling. Special effects continue to advance at a phenomenal pace (helped in no small part by another book-inspired series of movies).
So with all things factored in, that's where my vote goes. Knowing the classic Janes disdain for all things popular, I'm guessing it will be met with trepidation on the parts of Lord Slumber and Smurven, but that's the way things go. For the record, I do get a queasy stomach when I hear giddy teeny-boppers acting as if their life revolves around the series. But the same applies for Star Wars, Star Trek, etc., etc.
hmm, interesting kyle. i didnt actually watch the second harry potter cause i thought the first was so much worse than the book i didnt want to ruin another one. but you bring up very valid points. which brings it to the level of "yeah, i might watch that if its on cable" but not most anticipated summer movie! still, a bold move, bravo for being wierd.
I ended up voting for Spidy 2 because I've known about it the longest and been looking forward to it. Although its not in the poll since its a spring movie, Kill Bill Vol 2 would be up there for me. I am also looking forward to Troy and Harry Potter.
I really didn't think much of Harry Potter and its popularity, but after watching the first movie I was impressed and ended up watching the second movie as well. I haven't read the books which most likely made the movie much more enjoyable. It has some of the LOTR feel to it and I am sure I would have enjoyed those movies more not having read the books.
For lamest movie of the year is either New York Minute the next MK & Ashley Olsen movie and Super Size Me which is a documentary about a guy who only eat McDonalds for a month, has to try everything on the menu at least once and supersize his order when asked.
For what it's worth, the second Potter movie was a big improvement over the first, in our (mine and mishapen) collective opinion. Which may be why I have more hope for the third movie. Besides, the trailer was just so deliciously dark... (de-li-cious)
Could somebody post the opening dates for the films above?

thats true again, i liked the trailer, but that was cause of the music, (now i dont even remember if im remembering the second movies trailer or the third! guess ill watch you link) that being said, im still skeptical. its a lot easier to make a good trailer than to make a good movie (i think analyze this was a good example, but its too hard to remember exactly)

Its hard to say about HP3 since its a different director than the first 2. That could also explain the darker tone. Supposedly there's also going to be a different director for movie number 4. You also wonder how long they can keep using the same kids.
Awhile back I read an article that said they won't be able to use the same kids for all 7 movies; the nice thing is that in the books the kids also age (one year for each book), which probably extends the run of the current cast.
It is interesting b/c Draco especially looks so much older in the trailers than he did in the first film. He's turning into a teenage punk, which sorta fits the role. Ron also appears to show his age more.
Just for fun, here are some screenshots taken from the trailers for the first and third movies. I suspect this will be the last movie for some of the current cast, at the very least.

thats their plan, if whats her face gets on the ball and gets more books out. I think their original plan was to use the same kids cause 1 movie per year, 1 year between books . . . would be more realistic that way. thats also why it was good that there was a backup of like 4 books, so the author could have time to write them, and they'd still have their year spread, but she hasnt been coming through on her end . . .
Umm.. last I checked, she's still ahead of them. The movies themselves missed one year (last year?); not sure why.
And they're doing seven movies because there are seven books, you doof. It's always been planned that way, even before it became a cash cow or a movie script. The boarding school is a seven year thing, so Rowling planned one book per year.
i know its 7 for 7, and that was always the plan, the plan was also for her to come out with books on time! and she hasnt for the latest is all im saying, i know shes still ahead, but maybe thats why they waited on the one movie? cause she WAS behind schedule . . .
