The Incredibles

Pixar's got a perfect batting record, and The Incredibles is another solid hit. There are enough twists on the super-hero-rejected-by-the-world-retires-but-returns-when-super-villian-threatens plot to keep it fresh and interesting, but the real strength of the movie is the richness of the characters.
Oh sure, the main characters are fine, but the cameos steal the show, comedically speaking. From the manager at the insurance company (recognize his voice?) to the fashion designer to the baby, they all have a shining moment of hilarity.
Definitely worth the see--if you're a cheap-o, you can probably wait till it hits the dollar theater, but you'll have to deal with "did you see the Incredibles? Oh, well, there was this really good scene, but I don't want to spoil it for you" until then.

Yeah, i went with my lil bro thinking "oh good, i get to take my little brother to another gay kids movie" but came out loving it. Yeah, the minor characters make it. I'm just upset that they didnt really come up with any new super powers. All the ones i saw were ripoffs of the old comic books and stuff (flash, fantastic four, etc).

Ripoffs or tributes?

Tributes or "shout-outs"?
haha, I hate shout-outs. And I havn't seen the movie, so i'm not really qualified to ask such a condemning question.

Well, I'm pretty sure its ripoffs and not tributes. A tribute would be like, showing a hero with similar powers, or mentioning them in some way. Ripping off is having the main charaters have exactly the same powers as the former heros.
Examples:
Mr. Incredible- really strong, the power of tons of heros (incredible hulk, Juggernaut, rhino, etc)
Elastigirl- Same as Mr Fantastic from the fantastic 4 (stretchy) but a girl.
Their son- really fast...exactly like Flash
Daughter- Invisibility and the power to make force fields, just like the 'Invisible Girl' (not sure of the exact name) from the Fantastic 4.
Baby- turns briefly between a little monster thing (Incredible Hulk), Metal (Silver Surfer), and being on fire (the fire guy from fantastic 4)
Frozo- Shoots ice, and makes ice paths to skate on as a way to get around...I'm not exactly sure where i saw a hero like this, but i know there was one.
I guess this leads to an intersting question. Are all the good super hero powers taken? I mean, i was slightly upset at the lack of creativity of the Incredibles..but trying to think of other powers that havent been used already somewhere is pretty hard. Are there any other worthwhile powers to be had or are all new heros doomed to be ripoffs (or tributes) to already existing heros, or maybe just be remixes of them (where the powers are mixed and matched)?

I really didn't think they were rip-offs in anyway--rather homage to the super heros of yore. Many of the scenes contained hat tips to predecessors, such as the various posters and momentos around Mr. Incredible's office. I've got no problem with that, since creativity always builds on the past.

Yeah, creativity bulids on the past. Not copy it exactly. My idea of a homage would have been the Incredible family sitting around the TV watching the Fantasic Four, or other superhero cartoons "of yore." My idea of blatant copying with no creativity is giving the Incredibles powers used before with no original powers interjected anywhere. Don't get me wrong, this was my favorite superhero movie next to Xmen2, its just that they didnt do anything original power-wise
