So who's everyone liking for next year? Pretty much I can't stand Hilary Clinton. But Mit Romney and Fred Thompson are lookin pretty good. Anyone else leaning either way yet?

McCain and Obama
kyle_a — Sat, 02/02/2008 - 12:06Subject says it all - my dream race. Then I really wouldn't care who won. Which would be a nice change from 2K4 where both candidates were so depressing that Canada was actually starting to look appealing.

Wow, an actual political discussion! I'll have to think about this one.

well THAT wasnt a pointless post, g. ;)
well, if no one wants to answer the presidential question directly, then I could ask about the TWO MAJOR FACTORS that just about everyone in this country is going to use as their sole decision maker.
1)Abortion
2)Gay marriage
Thats it. I think even the whole Iraq thing isnt going to be as big of a deal.
As for my thoughts, I think abortion is reprehensible. i know the whole arguement about "its part of a womans body and its her right to choose." In reality, i dont think a small human is part of the average woman's anatomy. I can't think of a worse thing to do than reach into a pregant woman's gut, cut a living baby into pieces, then vacuum it out. I mean really, there are TONS of "choices" you could make to prevent the baby. Condoms, birth control pills, not having sex if you aren't ready for a baby, etc. Abortion just really really bugs me, if you can't tell.
However, I do think there are some cases when I could see it being allowed. 1) If either the baby, the mother, or both are likely to die in child birth. 2) If pre-screening shows that the baby is going to have some horrible debilitating disease or defect. 3) Rape babys, because if you were a woman, and got pregnant by some guy raping you...yeah, you wouldnt want to carry proof of it around the rest of your life.
As for homosexual marriage, i'm really on the fence. On one hand, who cares? let them do what they want and why do i care. On the other hand i can't really think about gay guys..."being gay" "doing the deed" or whatever you want to call it without being severely grossed out.
However, I do believe i recall hearing that the government gives married couples lots of yummy tax and legal breaks to encourage family building. Homosexuals are at somewhat of a disadvantage in family building, so they'd basically be getting all the married bonuses JUST for being gay. Unless they adopt or something. Or there really arent any married bonuses and i heard wrong. Thinking of it, I recently got married and Uncle Sam hasnt been giving me tons of money yet...so i wonder whats up with that...

who to choose?
Zed — Sat, 11/03/2007 - 22:55Every single Republican candidate has some serious flaws in my opinion. But you know what? I will vote for whoever the heck has a good chance of taking down Hillary. Many idealists disagree, but I truly believe we sometimes need to vote for the less of the two evils. That will probably be Thompsan or Giuliani. We'll see

good point. but i would say its more like EVERY candidate has serious flaws, just some more than others. like Hilary has the flaw of being an evil harpy from the pits of communist hell, for example. Obama is pretty awkward and weird at times. Overall i think the best potential democratic candidate is Stephen Colbert, he has a TV show for crying out loud, however, he also has the serious downfall of getting thrown off South Carolina's ballot for not being a "serious" candidate. That's even more of a problem because he was only planning on running in SC.
Double Post FTW
Rider of the Gr... — Fri, 03/28/2008 - 11:58So we're getting ever closer to november and stuff is gettin crazy. Hilary and Obama are neck and neck, which makes me pretty happy because the more they divide up the democratic party the easier it will be for McCain to take the general election.
Basically the dem's have screwed the pooch in several key ways.
1) alienated florida and michigan. most of the canidates pulled themselves off of FL and MI's ballots because they broke some dumb early voting rule. now those two states will have virtually no say in the primaries. if i was a democrat in either of these states i'd be pissed as hell, pissed enough to vote republican. and florida is ALWAYS a key state.
2) smear campaigns already. usually we dont get to see canidates bash on each other until after both parties have a candidate. now we have both democratic choices making each other look horrible. obama had that minister who said "God damn america", hilary exagerates like crazy. my favorite example of this is her saying that she has diplomatic experience because she took a trip to Bosina while her husband was in the white house and "landed in the middle of sniper fire" and said there was no welcoming cermony and everyone ran to their cars with their heads down to get away. when clips of her arrival surfaced to show that she lied about all of it, she said it was a "misstatement" and such misstatements are bound to happen because she says "millions of words a day." i did some quick number crunching, to say a million words a day you'd have to say about 11 words a second, give or take. so she exagerated about her trip to bosnia, and then she exaggerated about how much she flaps her chops per day. anyway, the longer this drags on the crappier both of them will look, and then during the REAL election McCain will be able to bring all of this stuff up again to further cream whoever ends up running.
3) Super delegates. i didnt even know what these were until i wikipedia'd it. what i found was perhaps the most undemocratic part of the entire democratic system of democratically elections. a super delegate is a high ranking democrat who gets to vote in the primary. their votes count about as much as 1000 normal voters, give or take. and to top it all off they have no obligation to vote for the most popular candidate. so with how close the race between obama and clinton is, the winner may be chosen by some washington bigshots instead of the voters. WOW. again, if i was a democrat, and this race came down to where the super delagates got to decide the winner, i'd be pissed enough to vote republican (republicans have no super delegates, by the way)
4) Polarizing their own party. pretty much democrats are evenly split between these two jerks. that means if someone loves one enough, when the other one wins, that person may choose not to vote, or vote for the other side. McCain is likely to have about 100% of voting republicans' votes. hil/obama? who knows! a funny part of this is that apparently Clinton tried to remedy the situation by suggesting that if primary voters chose her, she'd take obama as her VP candidate. a sensible move, since most democrats could get behind that...but apparently she never bounced the idea off Obama, who almost immediately replied that that wasn't going to happen. so Clintion looked like a dumbass again. HA!
Please, someone else weigh in on the election at this point, because i really think its starting to get interesting.
