Fred Claus
Rider of the Gr... — Sun, 11/18/2007 - 12:40
yeah, went to go see Fred Claus. Overall it was very meh. there were a couple memorable moments, but they were far outnumbered by overly gushy christmasy stuff and scenes that just went on way way way too long. Vince Vaughn's character was just like every other one of Vince Vaughn's characters with the almost muttery insults and sarcasm. Kevin Spacey was in it, and although i usually really like him, in this movie he just played the generic christmas bad guy that hates christmas because of something that happened when he was a kid, aka, boring.
Overall i'm not going to write much else about it because the movie really isnt worth it. But yes, i know Christmas time is coming, and it is a christmas movie, but ethically i think it's ok to give this one a miss, both Santa and baby Jesus will understand. I rate this one like.... 1.5/5 it would be higher but i've seen this movie before...aka, it's every other xmas movie ever made.

Definitely good to know. There are quite a lot of Christmas movies that share a lot of similarities. What are some of your favorite Christmas movies, those of you on the site?
Mine would have to be Badder Santa and Elf.

Elf was good. Other than that.....umm....i cant really think of any. They're all pretty much the same, mainly in that they dont really need a script or plot or intrigue or anything because as long as a movie is released in December has Santa in it hordes of people will go to see it just because it's a christmas movie. However, i do remember Family Guy making a couple of references to a movie called "Kiss Saves Santa" that i would be very interested in watching if it existed (which it does for all i know, i'm assuming it doesnt).
Also, another word on Fred Claus. I was thinking about it a little bit today and decided it seemed exactly like a christmassy adaptation of Dodgeball. I mean, Vaughn's character is identical and goes through almost an identical progression in both movies. i.e. Vaughn starts out as a total loser, but shows a little interest in helping out "the little guy." He then gets dragged into some battle against an evil corporation and starts to seem less loserish. Near the end of the movie he sells out and does something bad to make you hate him. Then comes the change of heart where he comes back and saves the day in the face of adversity. Throw in a couple of pointless conversations between Santa and Kevin Spacey and you have "Dodgeball: Xmas Version"...but it's made for kids so it's less funny. Thats important too.
