Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3)

gauntlet — Thu, 05/08/2008 - 00:27

This game has recently been named "Game of the Year 2007" for the PS3, so it's probably deserving of some attention here. It's been called "Tomb Raider meets Gears of War" which I'm inclined to agree with...with perhaps more emphasis on Tomb Raider than Gears of War.

I played through this game a few months ago and it was a fun time. Overall the graphics were smooth and brilliant, the game play was solid (although not unique), and the storyline was entertaining - think National Treasuresque.

Essentially you play as a treasure hunter, Nathan Drake, seeking Sir Francis Drake's lost fortune - but of course you're not alone in this hunt as you encounter many other villains seeking the same fortune.

The AI is really smart and at times annoying with their constant ducking and attempts to out-flank me. The music is big and sweeping and rightfully so since the scenery the same. One of my only complaints about the game is how bright it is. As I'm navigating though temples and ruins I keep expecting a darker environment, one that would build a little suspense. Instead, just glistening walls and bright skies.

Overall I would rate this game a 8 out of 10.
