radio and such
gauntlet — Wed, 05/14/2008 - 02:31I listen XM satellite radio at work and in the car....I can't stand the commercials and DJs on regular FM stations anymore. I would recommend it to anyone who listens to a lot of radio or has a long commute.
As far as buying...I either use Amazon or eMusic. Gone are the days of the CD. I think I bought one CD last year and that was at a live concert.
Can't help on the HD radio thing.
i am somewhat familiar with
Rider of the Gr... — Fri, 05/16/2008 - 13:06i am somewhat familiar with XM, i know it is satilite radio, like sirius. dont you have to pay for them? and seeing as you're buying music i'm assuming that you dont pirate music?
XM
gauntlet — Sun, 05/18/2008 - 23:30XM radio was created before Sirius and has a better music selection (more music stations). However back in February of 2007 the two companies merged together, although it has not been officially merged yet. So currently it doesn't really matter which one you sign-up with since eventually they'll be the same company.
Yes, you have to pay for it ($9.99/month) and it's well worth it for me since I spend on average 1.5 hours a day in the car driving. And listening to the regular FM stations would drive me to a state of crazed lunacy.
More info here on the merger:

And yes, no piracy here. Those days are long gone for me. I'm satisfied with the flexible $1 a song structure of online buying.
Yes, I also thought $1 a song
Rider of the Gr... — Mon, 05/19/2008 - 18:16Yes, I also thought $1 a song would be acceptable, then i realized i currently have over 1000 songs on my computer and how much that would cost at a dollar a song. I mean, i dont have that kind of money to throw around!!! $10 a month is better, and i think it would totally be worth it if i could get it on a walkman or some such, some personal audio device, because at work the radio tends to get hijacked by this one guy who puts it on the local rap station, WSNX, and we'll hear the same song literally 5 times a night. factor in that all the popular songs are basically the same line repeated over and over anyway, and that leads to some suicidal tendencies. I dont get it because the guy himself tries to make fun of the station, until i retort by asking, "if its that bad then why do you make us listen to it every day?" yeah, he doesnt have an answer for that. so usually the first time he goes to the bathroom or something i end up changing it and tell him to leave it alone. oh, and the best part? we have more than one radio on the line! he had a radio sitting right next to his head on that god-awful crap, then walked over to the other end of the line and changed what someone else was listening to! then turned it way up so you couldnt help BUT hear it. i asked him why the radio next to his head wasnt enough and he said he couldnt hear it with his ear plugs in. WHA?!? then take the ear plugs out!!!! we usually dont do anything loud enough to justify ear plugs anyway, besides letting that moron touch the radio!
portable
gauntlet — Tue, 05/20/2008 - 04:55As far as portable satellite radios are concerned, both XM and Sirius have options.

The Delphi MyFi Personal seems the most affordable.
